Research object – the processes of growth, development, formation of yield and seed quality of common onion (Allium cepa L.) of the Khaltsedon variety Research aim – development and improvement of technological elements of common onion seed production in the southern Ukrainian steppe Methods – field method - for phenological and biometric observations and yield assessment; laboratory method – for determining planting properties of seeds and yield structure; method of mathematical statistics – for making a dispersion, correlation, and regression analyses; method of calculation and comparison – for determining economic and energy efficiency of technological elements of common onion seed production Research results – pioneer all-round research was carried out into technological elements of common onion seed production on dark chestnut soils of the southern Ukrainian steppe; optimal planting time of mother bulbs considering the environmental effect was determined; winter-hardiness of mother plants of autumn seeding was identified; a comparative study of growth and development particularities of seed plants depending on planting time, mother bulb weight and feeding area of plants was conducted; the impact of planting time, mother bulb weight and feeding area on yield formation, seeding properties and fraction composition of seeds was substantiated; an analysis of economic and energy efficiency of technological elements of common onion seed production was made Application sphere – seed growing of common onion, accelerated reproduction, and obtaining reproduction seeds of promising varieties of common onion.
