The dissertation is devoted to research of a problem of the Ukrainian symbolism in a context of the European culture. It is carried out aspects the philosophical analysis philosophical-culturology a phenomenon. Different concepts on a problem of symbolism in European and domestic, in philosophical and culturology ideas are characterized. Sources and becoming of a symbol in culture ancient Ukrainians are investigated, the place and a role of a symbol of an epoch of the Middle Ages is defined, dynamics of development of a symbol of Renaissance and the Baroque is traced, the analysis of symbolical outlook Ukrainian Romantic is carried out. Symbolism ХІХ - the beginnings of XX century is analyzed on the basis of the carried out research of representatives presimbolism, „orthodox" symbolism, „red" symbolism.
