Essay

The author investigates the specificity of world outlook and aesthetics of postwar Polish Kresy literature with reference to fiction works of W.Odojewski, A.Ku?niewicz, L.Buczkowski and Z.Haupt. In her systemic analysis of their texts she employs methodology of culturological-anthropological, imagological and postcolonial studies, discovering in this way multilayer character of semiotic-symbolical and idea-thematic structure of these texts. The literature of Polish-Ukrainian Kresy (frontier) area, a unique phenomenon of multilevel interference of ethnic outlooks, languages, values and stereotypes realized within the framework of the Polish historic-literary tradition, witnessed in the period after World War II an essentially new philosophical-aesthetical direction. In that time, the "frontier" prose was marked, from the ideological-artistic viewpoint, by the following: renouncing "Jagiellonian rhetoric" in favor of universal character of value criteria resulting form destruction of Kresy way of thinking; transition from traditional narrative forms to destruction of prose discourse; crisis of interrelations between author and his character caused by catastrophic perception of reality; switching from mimetism to interpretation of reality, and from ideology to playing with senses; modernist aesthetics as realized in "props" (scenery) and issues; and, finally, silwiczno??, ie a strong influence of the intimate biography and media report genres and essayism upon artistic discourse, combined with potential heterogeneity of Kresy text.
