Essay

Subject: influence of fiber content increase on productivity and mechanical function of hemp plant stems. Aim: the ascertainment of selection effectiveness on fiber content increase along with preservation of mechanical function of stems in modern high fibered cultivars of hemp. Methods: field, laboratory, statistic. Novelty: there have been firstly established the peculiarities of preservation of mechanical function of stems at the selection for fiber content increase in hemp and specific features of anatomic building of the stems in modern high fibered varieties; it has been established that thickness of common fiber layer is not depended on wood thickness and positive correlation between fiber mass and the mass of non-fiber part of stems has been proved. Results: there are established the peculiarities of analytical building and relationships between stem components ensure the selection effectiveness for fiber-content increase and preservation of mechanical function of stems as to lodging resistancein hemp; by selection method 4 varieties of monoecious hemps related to common fiber content and economic traits are improved. Application stage: the improved varieties of monoecious hemps are used as the initial material for the development of new high-fibered hemp cultivars. An up-dated variety sample of monoecious hemps Glukhivski 18 as a unique one with high fiber content has been tranfered to NCPGRU. Application area: breeding establishments, AIC of Ukraine.
