The object of the research is spiritual potential of defense ability of the state. The purpose is to determine the essence, specific character of spiritual potential of defense ability of the state in the conditions of social and cultural transformations. The methods of research combine the complex of philosophical, scientific and special methods, which provide the unity of social and philosophical analysis. The main results include: the author's understanding of the essence of spiritual potential of defense ability of the state is offered, the determinants of forming the spiritual potential of defense ability of the state are explored, the contradictions of the process of forming the spiritual potential of defense ability of the state are emphasized, the essence and the sense of social mechanism of forming the spiritual potential in the conditions of transformation of society are determined.
