Kichera V. The Establishment and Activities of the Monasteries of Ordo Saint Basilii Magni in Zakarpattya (in the years 1733 – 1950)

The given thesis is dedicated to the research of main stages of establishment and activities of the monasteries of Ordo Saint Basilii Magni in Zakarpattya during the years of 1733 – 1950. The detailed analysis of historiographical literature and the use of a number of new sources allowed to reveal the main moments of institutional, economic, religious and cultural functioning of the Basilian Monasteries. First of all the thesis includes the study of institutional development of monkhood. In its process the following periods can be distinguished: foundations of monasteries (the second half of the 14th century – the year of 1646); transition to the Church Union and the first attempts to establish the province (1646 – 1664); formation of monastic institution in Zakarpattya (1664 – 1733); rise of monastic life and reforms by Joseph II (1733 – 1788); formation of the structure of Ordo Saint Basiliy Magni and its declination (the end of the 18th – 19th centuries).
