Essay

The thesis is devoted to the history of development of the Kyiv Special military district in May 1935 – June 1941. The place and role of south-west direction in the plans of soviet leadership, essence and character of soviet operational plans of war are analyzed. On a wide source basis the quality and quantity indexes of development of KSMD during 1935-1941 and the level of full strength of parts and their military efficiency are determined. The stages of preparation and participation of troops of the district in the Polish and Romanian military campaigns of 1939-1940, their military efficiency and particular features of the use are also reflected in the thesis.
