The thesis demonstrates that a substantial part of the energy used in the actuators of the shipboard machinery and equipment is dissipated; it is also emphasized that 50% of all machinery failures is due to the wear occurring in the bearing assemblies. Raising operating efficiency of such devices can be obtained by means of the following: recuperation of energy, raising the efficiency by lowering friction losses and reducing the wear rate. A generalized working cycle for a piece of shipboard machinery (equipment) was developed. An experimental stand of an actuator fitted on a hydraulically driven piece of machinery was constructed. The high-frequency method for measuring the wear-out rate was applied and, to control tribotechnical processes, a concept of prolonging the units durability, raising their operating efficiency and lowering noisiness and vibration was put forward, this concept being based on liquid crystal nature of the material present in the zone of interaction of the members of a piece ofmachinery (equipment); all the above described required development of a coating nanotechnology. Introduction of results obtained makes it possible to prolong the service life of the units for more than threefold, to reduce lubricating oil consumption, time and expenses required for repair to the actuator of shipboard piece of machinery (equipment), to raise the total efficiency of a shipboard piece of machinery (equipment) by 3…5%, and to lower down the noisiness by 2…5 dB.
