Solodka L. Lexical and Semantic Peculiarities of Headlines

This thesis investigates the lexico-semantic aspect of the periodicals headlines of the end of XX - beginning of XI c. as one of the principal issues of pressolinguistics. The paper analyses headlines from the point of view of literary critics, stylistics and journalism. The role and functions of the headlines have been investigated. The topics expressed in the article headlines have been studied. The structure, semantics, communicative and informative capacity of the headlines have been analyzed. In the thesis, an important role is assigned to the definition of lexico-semantic groups of media headlines. We introduced a thematic model of the headlines vocabulary typical of the periodicals of the above mentioned period. Moreover, this research has analyzed the ways and means of headlines expression and the use of transformed phraseological units in the headlines. On the basis of the analyzed modern journalistic texts, we have also determined the peculiarities of media headlines pertaining to the materials of various genres.
