This thesis is specifically concerned with the peculiarities of the formation and functioning of the Ukrainian religious press in Galicia in from 1853 to 1939. The structural-functional, thematic, and typological attributes of the system of Galician religious periodicals have been analyzed. The preconditions of the origin, and peculiarities of the formation of the Ukrainian religious press in Galicia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Polish Republic have been revealed. Peculiarities of creation, development, and functioning of periodicals for Greek-Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox readers have been considered. The conceptual principles, the nature of the content, Ukrainian religious press releases in Galicia in the period of Austria-Hungary and the Republic of Poland, the circumstances of their initiation, and the reasons for closure have been determined. The names of the founders of publishing projects of religious magazines have been determined, information on the basic circle of publishers, editors, and authors have been established. The role played by the Ukrainian religious press in the process of formation of Ukrainian society in Galicia during the outlined historical period have been outlined. The scientific novelty of the work is that for the first time: the massif of the religious press of Galicia as an integral phenomenon of the Ukrainian journalistic process of the XX century has been considered. Theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of the history of the origin and functioning of the Ukrainian press in general and the complex of religious publications published in Galicia have been improved. A typological scheme of division of the complex of religious journals that functioned during the historical periods of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Republic of Poland have been developed. On the basis of these three groups of periodicals, determined according to their readership, the ideological and thematic dominants of each of them are outlined. The expediency of using the terms «religious press», «press for the laity», «press for church ministers», «press for theologians» to define the typological features of the Ukrainian religious press in Galicia in the period of 1853–1939 has been argued. Successful press publishing strategies of the religious media process of Galicia in 1853–1939 were found, the tools of conveying religious rhetoric to different readers have been revealed. The analysis of program principles is carried out, the peculiarity of the content of religious magazines intended for a wide range of readers, professional press publications for Church ministers, theological press releases, which functioned during 1853–1918 have been traced. The functions of the religious press published during the interwar period are outlined, the problem-thematic dominants of magazines for laypeople, for Church ministers, and theologians have been analyzed. The role of this type of press in adapting modern scientific trends to the spiritual model of the Galician Ukrainian worldview has been determined. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the fact that the theoretical positions, methodological tools, and factual basis represented in the research can become a basis and a model for further study of worldview periodicals of the past and present. The materials of the dissertation research can become a methodical basis for the implementation of new domestic publishing religious projects and a source of information for the pastoral work of the ministers of the Church today. Theoretical and practical components of the research results can potentially be used in the formation of educational programs of higher education institutions, in particular in the development of lecture courses on the history of journalism, theory and history of religious journalism, theory and history of social communications, for example, a specialized course «Ukrainian Religious Press of XIX–XX centuries»
