Hrjashctevska L. Farming of German settlers in Southern Ukraine ( the end of the 18 century - the beginning of the 20 century)

The course of settling in Southern Ukraine by German settlers, the economic position and farming development in these German colonies since the end of the 20 century is complexly investigated in the thesis. An important orientation in the policy of Russian government was developing southern lands by foreign colonization. Foreign colonists were invited by Russian government to develop new lands and to increase farming population, they were given land and different privileges. During first decades of living in Black Sea steppes German settlers came across with the number of difficulties, they succeeded in solving most of them not only by different privileges but thanks to their diligence and ability for night farming. Changes in specialization of agriculture machine building are stressed flour, grinding larch of industry craft trades, comers in German colonies are examined as well. Their success and profitableness are caused by a complex of reasons such as state support, oneness in reaching the aim, hardworking and economizing, special organization of farming.
