The object of the research - personality of O.Ya.Konyskyi and the process of the Ukrainian nation forming at the second half of the XIXth century. The work is aimed at the study and scientific reconstruction of the ideology and activity of O.Ya.Konyskyi in the process of the Ukrainian nation forming at the second part of the XIXth century. Methods - personlogical, logic, the problem and chronology, historical and genetic, historical and typology, historical and comparative. The 43 items from archives of Kiev, L'viv and Poltava were entered into the scientific turn for the first time. The outlook of O.Ya.Konyskiy concerning finding the ways of the Ukrainian nation forming and the sense of the national idea were examined. Konyskyi's personal relations with the public figures of Naddnipryanschina, Eastern Galicia and Bukovina were studied. The importance of these contacts in the process of the Ukrainian intelligentsia consolidation was analyzed. The sphere is educational process.
