Skus O. Transformation of Uman Region’s confessional centres (1973-1917).

The dissertation deals with the the complex investigation of transformation processes of Uman Region’s confessional centres under conditions of incorporation of the Right Bank Ukraine into the Russian Empire. Ethnoconfessional characteristics of the region’s inhabitants are determined. The author has revealed and analyzed the character of religious life of the region under conditions of incorporation of the Right Bank Ukraine into Russian Tsarism. Having analyzed new sorces of information and the previous investigations, in particular, having compared to soviet historiography, the status of Orthodox Church, Greek Catholic and Catholic clergy is considered. Peculiarities of jews’ religious organization in Uman Region have been described. It has been proved that legal rules regulating religious relations in the Right Bank Ukraine were directed to intensifying influence and predominance of the Orthodox Church. The process of religious conversions taking place during the determined period in the region hasbeen reconstructed. It has been ascertained that considerable influence upon social economic conditions of cofessional centres of Uman region was made by social upheavals of the 19-th century and Russian Government’s politics.
