Essay

The thesis deals with the study of dynamics of ischemic damages in hippocampal CA1 area as well as neuroprotective effect of L-phenylalanin and water-soluble form of quercetine. A forebrain ischemia was performed using 4-vessel 15-min-ling occlusion in rat and 2-vessel 7-min-long occlusion in gerbils with reperfusion that followed. The “open field” and adhesive removal test were used to estimate a postischemic behavioral deficits in locomotor and somato-sensory activity. An adaptive synaptic plasticity develops in the brain tissue briefly after the ischemic episode including, namely, the modification in spatial arrangement of synaptic vesicles, decrease in their numbers, increase in the proportion of perforated synapses and multiple synapse boutons etc. L-Phe and quercetin were shown to have a protective effect displayed in the decrease of injured and dead neurones after ischemia-reperfusion. Quercetin applied according to a preventive regiment had more pronounced neuroprotective effect. The data obtained allow to suggest the expediency to using L-Phe and quercetin as neuroprotective drugs.
