The thesis deals with the problem of formation of a prospect teacher’s professional competence in the second speciality “foreign language”. The current state of training prospect teachers mastering the second speciality “foreign language” is analysed, the necessity of its improvement on basis of competence-based approach is proved. The content of the notion “a prospect teacher’s professional competence in the second speciality “foreign language” is determined and scientifically grounded. It is interpreted as integral personal formation, including value-motivational, cognitive-operational, personal, reflexive components. The methodology of its diagnostics is worked out. The criteria, indices and levels (low, medium, high) of professional competence are determined. A model of the process of formation of the prospect teacher’s professional competence in the second speciality “foreign language” is grounded and the corresponding pedagogical technology is developed, pedagogical conditions that ensure its effective realization are analysed. The technology was tested by means of introduction of the author’s integrative course “English Theoretical Course”. Recommendations concerning the improvement of the process of formation of a prospect teacher’s professional competence in the second speciality “foreign language” are given.
