The object of research is social and political situation in Ukraine and the countries of Central East Europe in 1980s-1991. The aim of research is to make comparative analysis of opposition movement in Ukraine and countries of Central East Europe in the context of social and political transformations in 1980s-1991. The subject of research is Ukrainian opposition movement as a component of social and political transformations in comparison with similar processes in the countries of Central East Europe in 1980s-1991. The methods of research: the historical comparativistics, analytical, synthetic, inductive, deductive, comparative method, problem-chronological, retrospective, synchronic, diachronic. The results of research and novelty: the comprehension of historical comparativistics and its cognitive possibilities for study of opposition struggle is deepened on the theoretical level. The common and distinctive features of Helsinki movement in Ukraine and countries of Central East Europe are defined. Theinfluence of ecological factor on politicization of opposition movement was disclosed, the particularities of youth movement and importance of education for formation of democratic values of youth were investigated. The specifity of Ukrainian movement of workers and trade unions in comparison with countries of Central East Europe was stated. The sphere of usage: subsequent development of subject of research, writing of summarizing labours, train aids, during reading of courses of history of Ukraine.
