Sylenko S. Breeding value of modern kidney bean genepool and the creation of original material for selection in the left-bank part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine

Subject: morphological features, biochemical composition, grain technological qualities of the collection specimens and the development of the original material of kidney bean. Aim: the studies on the peculiarities of major morphobiological traits and properties' manifestation in kidney bean specimens; the choice of the sources of valuable traits and the creation of a new original material on their basis for breeding the cultivars for grain purpose. Methods: field, laboratory, mathematical-statistical. Novelty: some peculiarities of the manifestation of major morphobiological traits and biological properties in kidney bean current genepool are established, their variability, interrelations, the nature of inheritance are determined; the most promising sources of valuable traits along with their stable expression are picked. Results: on the basis of the established peculiarities in formation, inheritance and variability of the traits some sources have been chosen and the original material for breeding kidney bean with high and stable expression of valuable traits, which are advisable to use at breeding new industrial varieties, has been created. Application stage: 3 trait collections for the specimens as to major valuable traits, which are registered in NCPGRU, have been formed; some reference samples have been chosen, 6 of these are registered in NCPGRU, 2 samples have been included in the National genebank of Ukraine; c.Otrada has been in the State Variety Test since 2008.
