Essay

According to the structural criterium, secondary phrase-formation processes are divided into inner-structural if the basic and the derivative phraseological units have the same structure - that of a word-combination or of a sentence, and inter-structural if the structure of the basic and the derivative units is different. According to the semantic criterium the processes are divided into transposition, transposition and modification, transposition and mutation, modification, mutation. Secondary phrase-formation takes place in the discourse and reflects cognitive and nominative activities of the speaker. These activities include categorization of the cognition object. The cognition object is referred to the prototype verbalised by the existing phraseological unit. This reference determines the formation of the derived phraseological unit.
