Halyk V. Halician Pidhirya in public-political and scientific activity of Ivan Franko.

Dissertation is the first system research in Ukrainian historiography of public-political and scientific activity of Ivan Franko on Halician Pidhirya territory. The work deals with the state of problem studying, using the great number of sources on the well-known and slightly known events of public-political, scientific and research work of the scientist on the territory of Drohobych, Sambir, Staryy Sambir, Turka, Stryy and Skole regions. On the ground of complex studying of historic, cultural, ethnographic and folk inheritance of Ivan Franko the author defines factors and conditions which influenced the forming of the fields of his political and scientific interests. The research reveals the place and significance of I. Franko's inheritance in the history of Halician Pidhirya, shows his participation in ethnographic expeditions and their importance, analysis preelection activity in the period of elections to Austrian Seim in 1895, 1897 and 1898. On the ground of systematization of real facts the objective estimate of public-political and scientific activity of I. Franko in Halician Pidhirya is made and his contribution into the development of historic and ethnographic science and national historiography is defined.
