PIPASH V. Social and Political Activity of the People’s Movement of Ukraine at the end of 1980-es and the beginning 1990-es: Transcarpathian regional aspect

The work is dedicated to investigation of Transcarpathian aspect of the activity of the People’s Movement of Ukraine in the period of its functioning as a public political organization of the People’s Front model (1989-1992). The preconditions of the reasons for and the process of the Transcarpathian Organization of the PMU formation have been laid down in the work. The trends and means of its state forming activity have been characterized. It has been determined that they had regional specificity due to the peculiarities of the cultural and historical development as well as to the political situation in the region. One of the distinctive trends was the struggle against local separatism. It got especially stubborn in autumn 1991, when separatists tried to transform Transcarpathia into an autonomous republic. The contribution of the Transcarpathian Regional Movement to the process of gaining independence of Ukraine, preserving its integrity, introducing democratization, carrying out social and economic reforms, renewal of national memory and people’s spirituality have been shown.
