Essay

The dissertation presents the first comprehensive study of the way of life and leisure of rural people in the post-war Ukraine (1945-1953). The work analyzes the main lines in activities of the local Soviet authorities and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union meant to change the rural way of life along with reasons and consequences of social transformations that took place in the country. The author considers changes in way of life and leisure of peasants during the postwar decade as influenced by the totalitarian power of state. The work also reveals the situation with satisfaction of material and cultural needs of Ukrainian peasantry. It includes corresponding statistics data on the living conditions of the people and the situation with the cultural, commercial and medical services provided to them and analyzes the most popular holidays, traditions and customs of common Ukrainian ceremonialism.
