Object: the plant habitus traits of oil flax lines and hybrids. Aim: to determine the character of inheritance and variability of the oil flax plants under various environments and to found the new initial lines for breeding and genetic investigations in oil flax. Methods: breeding, cytological, statistic. Novelty: the complex study of the variability and inheritance of the habitus traits was carried out in oil flax under various environments. Results: It was ascertained that the traits of branching and plant height were inherited under the additive-dominant model with the higher number of lateral stems, lower height and lateral shoot number as dominant traits. The quantitative habitus traits were mainly controlled by the genes with dominant effects. The traits of “plant height” and “the number of lateral shoots” were controlled by 2 blocks of genes, whereas the trait of “the number of lateral stems” depended on 1 to 3 gene blocks. The trait of dwarfism was controlled monogenic recessive nucleic mutation. Application stage: The 79 lines with new complexes of agricultural valuable traits were selected from the cross combinations. Application area: institution of higher education of MES, MAP of Ukraine, research establishments of UAAS
