Essay

Object: selection value of spring barley varieties reproduced under different soil and climatic conditions. Aim: selection and genetic valuation of spring barley varieties of different ecological and geographical origin and their hybrids, singling out of sources and donors of economically valuable characteristic features for selection, determination of the perspectives to use barley varieties reproductions from different growing areas as crossing components formation of the material for the further selection work. Methods: field, laboratory, genetic, statistic. Novelty: for the first time it has been proved that the samples of the same spring barley variety grown under the different ecological and geographical conditions for a long period of time differ in their genetic and selection value. The statement has been asserted on the base of the revealed differences on the manifestation level of quantity characteristic features taking into consideration their correlations, the effects of general and specific combination ability and genetic control. Results: on the base of the ascertained laws concerning manifestation and inheritance of quantity characteristic features the barley variety samples grown in different areas and taken as donors of economically valuable characteristic features have been singled out and proposed as crossing components. The perspective initial material has been formed. The application stage: the perspective hybrid combinations have been created, the valuable selection lines have been singled out. 14 of them are included into the National genbank of Ukraine, and one of them has been comfirmed with the author certificate.
