Essay

The foundation and activity of the first political organization of Ukrainians of Halychyna the Supreme Ruthenian Council аre considered in the thesis. The preconditions of foundation, a quantitative and social complement of the supreme council in L'viv are explored; changes in the leadership, in the inside scheme of organization are investigated. The programmatic demands and their realization are analyzed. The attempts of the Supreme Ruthenian Council to settle to the peasant question, to create military troops and also contributions in cultural and scientific sphere are examined. The main problem in the Ukrainian-Polish relations was the idea to divide of Halychyna into Ukrainian and Polish ethnic provinces.
