Object - mass sports activities in Ukraine at the end of XIX - in the first half of XX century; the aim - to systematize theoretical ideas and generalize the experience of organizing students' mass sports activities in the domestic pedagogy (the end of XIX - the first half of XX century) to facilitate the improvement of educational process in the institutions of higher learning in Ukraine; methods - theoretical, empirical; novelty - the research presents the first integral analysis of the theory and practice of organizing students' mass sports activities at the end of XIX - in the first half of XX century, the essence of the notion "organization of students' mass sports activities" is specified, the directions in students' mass sports activities characteristic to the period under research are singled out; results - some new and insufficiently analyzed documents are introduced for further research (26 documents), important facts and theoretical ideas on the theory and practice of organizing students' mass sports activities in the domestic pedagogy (the end of XIX - the first half of XX century) have been examined, the programme of the course "Mass sports activities in the educational establishments" has been worked out ; field - pedagogy
