Ivanova N. Peculiarities in manifestation of awnlessness, shortawnness and longawnness in the breeding of spring barley

Object: breeding for awnless andshort-awned spring barley. Aim: establishment of morphobiological and selection-genetical peculiarities, inheritance, correlations, possibilities of recombination, efficiency in utilization of breeding for the traits of awnlessness, shortawnness and other economic traits and development on this basis of a valuable material of spring barley. Methods: field, laboratory, statistical. Novelty: some morpho-biological and variety peculiarities of hairlikeness of very short awns in the induced mutants, peculiarities of phenotypic manifestation in F1 and genotypic digenic nature of recessivity interitance of shortawnness and awnlessness domination in F2, the selection efficiency on different manifestation of awnness at quantitative traits' recombination based on the newly selected original material with different manifestation of awnness, which is utilized in breeding of spring barley, have been established. Results: some peculiar features of morphology, inheritance, hereditability, correlations and recombinations that ensured effective creation of selection valuable forms of spring barley with different trait manifestation of awnness and awnlessness, are stated. Application stage: 4 awnless lines of spring barley have been registered in the NCPGRU, 8 awnless lines have replenished the National gene bank of plants of Ukraine. Application area: breeding institutions.
