Bilenka O. Initial material for creation varieties of bulb onion and shallot adapted the Forest-Steppe conditions of Ukraine

Object: original and breeding material of bulb- and underground onions. Aim: definition on variation and adaptivity peculiarities of economic traits in bulb onion and underground onion and on this basis the development of the original material for selection of the varieties of universal and salad usage. Methods: field, laboratory, statistic, measuring. Novelty: peculiarities of the variation in bulb-onion collection material as to main economic traits are established. Under the natural and artificial infection conditions some sources of resistance of bulb onion samples to peronosporiose are identified. Peculiarities of the variation of quantitative traits in underground onion are revealed; some sources for selection on earliness, yield, bulblil weigt, green leaf productivity are distinguished. Results: the peculiarities on adaptivity, plasticity and breeding value of bulb onion's and underground onion's genotypes as to economic traits are stated; some sources for breeding bulb onion of universal and salad usage and underground onion are revealed. Application stage: cultivars of bulb onion - Mavka and Lyubchik and underground onion - Zabava, Syurpriz and Lira have entered the State Plant Variety List, which are suitable for distribution in Ukraine. Application area: breeding institutions.
