In the investigation the historical-pedagogical aspect of the development of handicraft education in Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century is observed. The problem of handicraft education as scientific phenomenon is defined, the state of investigation problem in scientific and pedagogical documents and literature is determined, the contribution of native and foreign pedagogical scientists in the elaboration of theoretical aspects of development of handicraft education. The general characteristics of handicraft establishments' activity in Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century are opened out, the place of handicraft establishments in educational system of Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century is determined. The analysis of contents characteristics of handicraft establishments' activity in Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century is represented. The process of organization of educational activity and social mode of life of students in handicraft establishments is analyzed; the contents of education in the system of handicraft education are learned; the role of handicraft educational establishments in social protection of unfortunate groups of children is detected. Handicraft education is determined as a separate phenomenon in the general system of education in Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century.
