Essay

The dissertation sets out to provide a historical and pedagogical research into the problem of preliminary school teachers training in teachers' seminaries of Ukraine (the late 19th - early 20th centuries). The Ukrainian zemstvos have been proved to be instrumental in promoting preliminary school teacher training activities in the late 20th century. The thesis features pedagogical and scientific heritage of K. Ushinskiy, M. Drahomanov, S. Vasylchenko, M. Korf, B. Grinchenko, T. Lubenets et al., the celebrated Ukrainian pedagogues, and preliminary schooling pioneers. The research outlines the major patterns underlying the teachers' training establishments at hand. It has been thereby concluded that the educational groundwork of the establishments relies upon socio-clerical, linguistic, natural, and specific activities. The research enabled to single out the principle regularities and tendencies of preliminary school teachers' training in teachers' seminaries of Ukraine (late 19th - early 20th centuries).
