Thе dissertation is dedicated to the research of didactic basis of the primary school pupils language learning in Great Britain in the second half of the XX c. - the beginning of the XXI c.Great Britain is notable for its high achievements in education as well as for its valuable language learning and language teaching experience.In the investigation language learning is considered as a constituent part of the language education. Its social and pedagogical component emerges in the process of educating and upbringing of the primary schoolchildren. Its pactical aspect is realized through four types of communication: listening, speaking, writing and reading. Language teaching in primary school aims to prepare children to further education and facilitate cognitive development of their personalities.The state documents, circulars, regulations providing the language policy in British primary schools and, thus, some new data, historic facts and materials unknown earlier, dealing with the development of literacy and implementing foreign languages into National Curriculum and into the practice of teaching in British primary schools, are introduced in the investigation to scientific consideration.
