Essay

The dissertation focuses on all-round research of history of cultural and art development and reconstruction of the cultural life in the town of Nizhyn (Ukraine) in the Middle of the XVII - XVIII centuries. It has been proved that Nizhyn used to be one of the most important socio-political, commercial and economic centres of the Hetmans-ruled Ukraine, which created all the necessary preconditions for intensive development of culture in the town. The author has also ascertained the role of some public figures and clergymen as well as of various social and ethnic groups in the cultural and art life of the Nizhyn.
