Drevnitskyi Y. Public, political and scientific activity of Volodymyr Starosolskyi (1878-1942).

The activity of Volodymyr Starosolskyi, the famous political and public man, lawyer of the first half of XX century is investigated in the thesis. The formation and evolution of man's world-view is traced, his first political steps in the student's movement and in the Ukrainian Social-Democratic Party are characterized, the political activity during the First World War and the state-creative work as a member of Directory government of Ukrainian National Republic is analyzed. Lawyer's activity in political judicial cases of Polish authority over Ukrainians is depicted.Formation of V. Starosolskyi's social and political view was realized at time when Galicia was a part of Austrian-Hungary Empire and one of the main requirements of national youth movement at the beginning of XX century was the struggle for opening of Ukrainian university. During the studying in Krakiw, Vienna and Lviv universities (1896-1900), he took part in political actions of such societies as "Young Ukraine", "Academic Society", "Sich" as one of leaders. At that time, as the author says, V. Starosolskyi became interested in programs and activity of Ukrainian left-wing parties. He was a member of Ukrainian Social-Democratic Party of Galicia and Bukovyna from 1903 to 1939.
