The thesis highlights the problem of dependence between hybrid seed qualities - seed vigor, germination and production characters - and seed specific weight. In germination experiments with seeds of different fractions under both favourable and infavourable conditions, seed vigor and germination decreased regularly in conformity with reduction of seed specific weight. An optimal mode of seed grading by specific weight was worked out, which guaranteed obtaining seed with maximum possible germination at its goodness level. It has been proved experimentally that the most precise method of prognostication of field emergence of seed is its determining in the laboratory of ground control. When studying production characters of sugar beet seed depending on its specific weight, a direct dependence of the intensity of seed germination, field emergence and plant density of stand on seed specific weight was established. Sowing seed with the highest specific weight resulted in substantial increase of root yield with almost similar sugar content which provide significant increase of sugar yield per ha.
