Gordiychuk O. Establishment and activity of Kyiv Literacy Society (1882-1908).

The thesis is devoted to the insight research of the establishment and activity of Kyiv literacy society (1882-1908). The investigation of the issue was done using a wide circle of sources and scientific literature. The points of education level exposing on Right-bank Ukraine in the second half of XIX – at the beginning of XX centuries are paid attention to. It is indicated, that large efforts were made in matters of the elementary knowledge’s distribution among population by leading teachers and public men, which united in elucidative organizations and societies for the improvement of their work. The issues of Kyiv literacy society activity are outlined in dissertation – cultural and educational organization which operated on the territory of Right-bank Ukraine at the end of XIX – at the beginning of XX centuries, and was aiming at the distribution of primary education among the poorest layers of population. The process of beginning and becoming of organization is analyses on the basis of the numerous archived materials. The structure and basic tasks of the society are considered too. Main forms and methods of its activity are found out as well as the question of Kyiv society of literacy influence on a cultural and educational process in the region at the end of XIX – beginning of XX centuries.
