Essay

This dissertation investigates the influence of the Uniate Church on sociocultural process in the Podillia region in XVIII century. Analysis focuses on the new religious environment that arose as a result of the emergence of the Uniate Church on the Podillia territory. It was discovered that despite the support of the Polish government and the local feudals, the Uniate Church could not ascertain itself in the Podillia. Causes leading to the liquidation of the Uniate in the Podillia region at the end of XVIII century are examined. In this work, relationship between the Uniates, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians is explored. It is noted that the existence of several Christian Churches on the territory of the Right-Bank Ukraine was first and foremost the basis of various conflicts over followers as well as over properties and profits. In addition, the cause of the deepening of such conflicts was the intervention of governments of Rzeczpospolita and the Russian Empire. It is also found that, lon a local level, Uniate and Roman Catholic priests cooperated.
