Essay

The thesis deals with one of the most powerful clans in Kyiv palatinate, the Nemyryches, who had established a wide network of land tenures, and with their position in noble community of the mentioned palatinate. Based on a wide range of sources, we have identified the members of the clan, as well as traced the origin and extension of their real estate (volosts). We explored economic activities carried out by the clan in these volosts, assessing areas, population density, yields and estimated value. The thesis determines the role of the clan in the territorial self-government of Kyivan palatinate and its participation in political life. We paid particular attention to the personal relationship between the distinct representatives of the clan and the other noble clans.
