Pre-conditions of the formation and development of L'viv-Volyn coal-mining basin, its geographical location, historic peculiarities of the geological research of the basin territory, natural pre-conditions and resources as well as demographical pre-conditions are outlined. The main problems and development tendencies in the economy of L'viv-Volyn coal-mining basin are emphasized. The transformational processes in branch and territorial structure of industry are investigated. The ways of optimization of functioning of coal-mining industry, as well as other branches of industry and areas of international cooperation are proposed.
