Goncharenko L. Borrowings' Linguistic and Cognitive, Functional, Pragmatic and Adaptable Features in modern German and Ukrainian Press

The process of new words’ expansion in the lexical system of German and Ukrainian languages of the last decade of the XXth and the beginning of the XXI centuries is analyzed in the thesis. The amount of new borrowings from the English language is caused by widening intergovernmental, culturological and as a result – interlanguage contacts of modern Germany and Ukraine with the world. The correlation of pragmatics and semantics in this process, stages of the borrowings’ introduction to cognitive procedures are analyzed in the thesis. Recently formed groups of borrowings that function in the modern mass media are described in the thesis. The pragmatic characteristic of modern borrowings in German and Ukrainian languages of the last decade is given in the thesis.
