The thesis dedicated to the study of the epizootic situation of the edema disease of piglets in Ukrainian farms, biological characteristics and factors of the pathogenesity of the causative agent of the colienterotoxemia (? hemolytic strains of E. сoli), as well as to the development of the method for a specific prophylaxis on its basis. It has been established that the main role in the pathogenesis of the edema disease of swine belonged to the factors of the pathogenesis of the causative agent: ? hemolysin and thermolabile enterotoxin and fimbrial adhesins K88ab, K88ac, K88ad, 987P, Att25 and F41. The expediency of exploitation in composition of the vaccine as protective antigens of anatoxins and adhesive antigens of the causative agent of the colienterotoxemia of swine has been substantiated. The method of the production of the inactivated subunit vaccine against colienterotoxemia (the edema disease) of piglets (based on factors by the causative agent's pathogenesis) was developed. Industrial commission tests of the biopreparation which has been held at the farms that have stationary problems with the edema disease of piglets exposed that the vaccine showed explicit prophylactic effectiveness (its exploitation permits to decrease piglets mortality approximately four times). The use of the vaccine lowers spreading of the disease and provide safety of 95.5-98.9 % piglets. The package of normative documents has been developed and approved at the State Department of Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine, so the registration certificate has been received.
