Essay

For the first time in Ukrainian historiography research of development of University education in the Soviet Ukraine was conducted in the dissertation. Comprehensive analysis of literature and wide range of sources, including archival materials of documents and periodic publications on the history of Kiev, Kharkiv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk Universities forms the basis of scientific work. Universities of Soviet Ukraine, recovered in autumn 1933, in the short time have become the leading higher educational institutions to prepare highly skilled Soviet specialists. Clear organization of the University educational process, development of postgraduate study active scientific research conducted by Universities were of great importance for the further development of higher education in USSR. Communist ideology, which all aspects of University activity were subject to, had a negative impact on the development of University education. Because of the permanent party control Universities of the USSR of pre-war period, despite significant educational and scientific potential, could not develop to the best of their ability.
