On the base of archive documents, scientific literature, periodic press and museum materials directions of the projecting and construction of railway transport in the Southern Ukraine under conditions of private and state financing, municipal authorities participation in the transport system activity were studied. The rolе of the railway transport in the Southern region cities development and their economic and transport formation were explored.
