Essay

The author presents the integrated study of everyday life of urban population in Ukraine in late XIX - early XX centuries. Based on thorough analysis of a wide range of sources the key factors were identified that determined the life of citizens in Ukraine at the turn of two centuries. The analysis of socio-cultural phenomenon that led to changes in the daily life of the inhabitants of cities in the period is fulfilled. The role of technical inventions as well as the impact of fashion and advertising on the lives of ordinary citizens is considered. It is proved that thanks to these innovations the Europeanization of urban lifestyle came into life. Special attention is given to illustrate the Ukrainian national traits presenting in the urban environment. It is shown how national features affected the construction of the housing, clothing and food of citizens.
