Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the history of theory, methodology and practical technologies for monitoring studies of the media as one of the most effective ways to study the communication process in society. Research is based on the methods and results of media monitoring, used in Ukraine, as well as materials and media items. The theoretical foundations of media monitoring in different scientific schools are analyzed according to the created periods. Principal features of the practical use of monitoring technologies in Ukraine during the period of 2002-2006 are systematized. A typology of the results of monitoring is created and the most significant of them are described. Recommendations are given to reform the media space in order to deal with the media during elections. The grounds are made for further research of interaction between development of monitoring technologies and manipulative technologies for public opinion toward science "Social Communications".
