Tsendra N. Relations between the State and the Church in Ukraine (1991-1996).

The thesis is devoted to the study on the relations between State and Church in Ukraine during 1991-1996. The problem of formation of new types of relationships was studied on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of a great number of original historical sources and the application of the relevant knowledge from historiography and other humanities' fields. A policy of Soviet era totalitarianism directed against religion and the church was found to have a negative effect on Ukraine in the early 1990's. Subsequent changes in the theoretical principles establishing the relations between church and state were reviewed. The contribution of different branches of the State in deciding on many aspects of state-church life was considered and the effectiveness of laws on religious matters was assessed. The main directions given by the Ukraine's National Committee on Religious Matters were especially considered.
