The research presents a theoretical substantiation and empirical findings illustrating the role of the positive values and character strengths in preventing teacher's emotional burnout syndrome. On the basis of the in-depth analysis of both intrinsic and extrinsic causes of burnout , which are not sufficiently differentiated in the literature on the problem from the point of view of their relative significance, the research postulates the key role in preventing burnout of the satisfaction of the teacher with oneself as an agent of the major professional functions - those of pursuing and conveying the knowledge. With account to the ideas of the contemporary positive psychology it has been demonstrated in this research that among the personality factor protecting from burnout there are the so called cerebral character strengths, formed thanks to pursuing the virtue of "wisdom", namely: creativity, curiosity, love of learning, openness of the mind, perspective. On a representative sample of young teachers it has been empirically proved that statistically lower intensity of burnout is pertinent to the subjects who have more developed cerebral character strengths, higher level of fluid intelligence and metacognitive abilities. Relationships between various groups of character strengths and psychological and subjective well-being of the teacher have been clarified.
