The dissertation outlines the humanistic ideas in Ivan Franko's pedagogical heritage in the light of cultural and educational movements in Halychyna in the second half of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th century. It singles out and characterizes the positions of thinker's contribution to the processes of educational thought. The dissertation clarifies I. Franko's humanistic attitude in substantiating the psychological and pedagogical aspects, objective and tasks of the youth education, trends of organizing educational influence. It considers I. Franko's contribution to defining the humanistic approach to the youth education, teaching and learning, teachers' activity, their moral qualities and professional competences in the educational process.
