Nalyvaiko S. The Problem of Rus-Khazar relations in the Ukrainian Study context

The thesis is an attempt to create the generalization of the study on problem of Rus-Khazar relations in the Ukrainian Study context for the first time. It is based on the reports of the full range of historical sources (Ancient Rus and Khazar documents, information of the Arab-Persian historical-geographical tradition, archaeological materials), the Ukrainian Studies methodology, and the analysis of the historiographical and methodological approaches. It is an attempt to determine the depth and significance of Khazar-Rus ties. The prehistory of Rus-Khazar relations is considered in its broadest sense (as a problem of the ethnogenesis of the Khazars) in the context of the "Khazar problem". Special attention is paid to the study of "Eastern trace" in the history of Rus, as well as to Rus-Khazar relations in the context of Rus access to the Caspian Sea in IX - X centuries. In addition, the paper considers the problem of "contact zone" archeology of Khazaria and Rus and ethnical and state interpretation of Saltivska archaeological culture (VІII - X centuries).
