Essay

Object: physiological mechanisms of influence of affective stimuli on central nervous system functioning for women. Purpose: finding out of physiological mechanisms of information perception and evaluation in the different phases of menstrual cycle for women. Methods: topographical analysis of brain electrical activity, analysis of heart rate variability, psychophysiological testing. Results: The greatest brain activation of women is evoked by perception of erotic and positive images in a follicle phase. Perception of unpleasant pictures causes depression of alpha-rhythm in posterior parietal and temporal areas both for women and for the men. Viewing of the affective pictures is accompanied with the increase of duration of R-R interval for the persons of both sex. Novelty: Brain electrical activity and heart rate variability during perception of emotional stimuli depends on level of extraversion, neuroticism, and empathy, and it differs in the different phases of menstrual cycle. Purview: physiology of human and animals, psychology.
