Encheva H. Linguistic and cognitive modelling of aviation terms translation process (based on the material of English-Ukrainian versions of normative and technical ICAO documents)

The conceptual principles of the cognitive nature of translation are established; the systems and structures of presenting translator’s knowledge are analyzed; the cognitive substratum of linguistic modeling is determined; the cognitive translation model is elaborated on the grounds of detecting the cognitive basis of translation process; the action mechanism of the cognitive translation model by means of performing phased translation on the grounds of comparing knowledge by way of corresponding frame-based structures is described. The research likewise elucidated genre peculiarities of the texts of the ICAO standard and outlined the conceptual apparatus of the aviation term system; examined the totality of aviation terms resulting from the cognitive activity of a translator; marked the structural peculiarities of the English and Ukrainian aviation terms and pointed out the factors, which define the specific character of their translation. The research also established the possibility of performing frame-based knowledge structuralization and indicated peculiarities of using frame-based knowledge structures in the process of translating terms within the framework of the cognitive model.
