Object: the activities of Ukrainian teachers and educational leaders in the end of XIX - first half of XX century. Aim: description of the educational and social activities of S. Smal' Stotsky, singling out his pedagogical ideas and justification of his relevance in the development of modern education in Ukraine. Practical importance: the provisions and findings used for training on pedagogy, history of pedagogy, methodology of teaching the Ukrainian language, workshops for local practicing teachers, writing textbooks and manuals. Methods: the specific search, theoretical, comparative and comparable, historical and retrospective questionnaires.
